Synopsis:
"Straight Into Darkness" is
the tale of two American soldiers, Deming (Scott MacDonald)
and Losey (Ryan Francis), struggling to survive in the harsh
destructive winter on the ravaged battlegrounds of Europe
in the Second World War. Deming is a wild-eyed soldier on
the edge, holding Losey hostage at gunpoint as they desrt
their troop and attempt to escape the combat. Losey, a soldier
with a good heart, is plagued with violent flashbacks interwoven
with memories of his true love back home and horrible combat
moments where innocent woman and children were killed. Deming
aggravates the situation when he takes an elderly couple hostage
and roughs the up, however he quickly finds that karmic vengeance
will punish him.
Things take an eerie twist when Deming and Losey find themselves
surrounded by a group of orphan child soldiers who seem to
know the old couple. They learn that the man and woman were
teachers in an orphanage that was mercilessly destroyed by
the enemy. In an effort to defend themselves, the old man
has now trained the children to fight using any weapons they
can get their hands on.
It is not long before they come under a surprise attack by
an enemy battalion loaded with heavy artillery and a powerful
tank. What results is a bloody showdown to the death; an experience
like that of the most horrible nightmare. Together with the
gang of child soldiers and the old couple, Deming and Losey
must fight a most memorable war for their own lives, performaing
brave heroics to protect not only themselves, but for the
children of war.
"Straight Into Darkness" is a mesmerizing tale of
the human condition in the worst of circumstances. Audiences
will be haunted by the imagery of director Jeff Burr, who
has been highly praised for his work on this film, which Variety
Magazine describes as "a heady brew of redemptive themes
by way of Joseph Conrad, wtih editing and camerawork from
the playbooks of Orson Welles and Sam Peckinpah..."
