Synopsis:
On a night when their quiet suburban
neighborhood is plagued by mysterious blackouts, the tight-knit
Armstrong clan presses on with its plans to celebrate the
birthday of the head of their family, CURTIS ARMSTRONG SR.
In the dark, the Armstrongs hang banners and carefully place
candles on the birthday cake. They have no idea how truly
cursed this family gathering will be.
As his family tensely awaits his return, the irritable Curtis
Sr. is out in the chaos of the blacked-out city on a mission
to evict squatters from one of his downtown properties. What
he finds in that crumbling building are no ordinary "squatters."
Instead, he comes face to face with an Old World horror intent
on spreading its evil in the New World.
When Curtis returns to his family, he is a changed man-- infected
with an ancient plague that corrupts the soul, even as it
transforms the flesh. His strange behavior casts a darkness
over the "celebration" and puts everyone on edge,
but no one dares to confront him.
Curtis soon reveals his agenda: to infect every member of
his family. As family blood is spilled and shared, the
Armstrong home soon becomes a den of vampires.
Two sets of late arrivals walk in unaware into this situation.
First up are JEN ARMSTRONG, the eldest daughter, and her lover,
LISA. Jen is the black sheep of the family, not just because
of her lesbianism, but because of her chosen career as a liberal
social worker. When Jen and Lisa arrive, they immediately
wonder why the family is acting so strangely.
They don't get much time to figure it out, however, because
right behind them is an angry young man named RAKEEM with
his gun-toting buddies. Rakeem blames landlord Curtis’
negligence for the death of his little brother. Tonight, he
has decided, is the night he will get his revenge-- the citywide
blackout providing the perfect cover. He bursts in and
takes Jen and Lisa hostage. His plan is to confront the Armstrongs
with their misdeeds and demand reparations for the tragic
injustices done to Rakeem's own family. Needless to say, Rakeem's
plan does not count on the Armstrong family having been transformed
into a pack of voracious, bloodthirsty beasts.
Very quickly, the would-be avengers become the hunted. The
suburban home becomes a slaughterhouse. Rakeem and Jen Armstrong
are the only survivors. Together, they fight their way out
of the death house into the night-- only to find that the
entire neighborhood has been overrun by vampires. There's
no way out: spectacles of carnage await behind every picket
fence; the neighbors, young and old, prowl the streets, feasting
on the dead and dying.
Jen and Rakeem now know they have no one else to turn to.
Can they survive? And what does survival mean in a hell where
souls are as much a delicacy as blood?
